JOANNEUM RESEARCH Forschungsgesellschaft mbH, MATERIALS Institute for Surface Technologies and Photonics
JOANNEUM RESEARCH is a business oriented provider of innovation and technology. It is linked to a worldwide network and has been providing leading research according to the highest international standard for more than thirty years. Focusing on applied research and technology development, the JOANNEUM RESEARCH plays a key role in transferring technology and know-how in Austria.
JOANNEUM RESEARCH is represented by the research unit MATERIALS Institute for Surface Technologies and Photonics. The institute is internationally recognized for its applied research in Light and Optical Technologies (SSL, PV, Simulation) as well as large scale micro and nanostructuring (roll-to-roll, laser lithography, step and repeat), laser processing or optical chemical / biosensing and employs more than 80 researchers.
The R&D activities are coordinated by Dr. Barbara Stadlober, head of the research group HYBRID ELECTRONICS AND PATTERNING which develops innovative structuring methods enabling large-area fabrication of flexible micro- and nanostructured films or fully integrated components for application in organic electronics, packaging technology, light engineering and optoelectronics, medical technology or chemical, physical and biological sensor systems (systems in foil, printed electronics).
MATERIALS has a long-standing experience in managing a wide range of applied-oriented research cooperations with international business partners, e. g. Tridonic Jennersdorf GmbH, AT&S, Lumitech, EcoCan, Hueck Folien AG, Swarovski, Swatch, Microsoft Research, Siemens, AMO, bionic surface technologies, EV Group.
